  • Joan wanted three price quotes for printing. Our new region 3 director, Bo Copely, now works for Kinkos and can get a great price for printing.

Mr. BASS 2007:

  • Will be hosted by region 10. Chris Lucas has reserved Claytor Lake ramp and is working on the rest of the package for the event.  The date is  set for April 21 & 22,  2007.

Six Man for 2007:

  • Six-Man dates cannot be finalized until October, 2006, pending permits from the Army Corps of Engineers.  B.A.S.S. has scheduled a couple of tournaments in May but not the week we had considered other than June.

Sponsors:

  • Both the Mercury contract and the Lowrance contracts have been signed and products have been received. Motor Guide and Lowrance have provided product for the state team.  For information about the Lowrance contract please contact Joan Blankenship at 276-957-3444 or by e-mail.
  • We are waiting for the Skeeter Program contract to come back.  Dave Holloway from Skeeter has not received packet from Joan.  She had mailed long ago and she will call Dave to discuss with him.  Triton Alliance agreement has been received but we are still waiting for a reply from Skeeter.

Legal Issues:

  • In January 2007, BFN will be launching the new, very generous Scholarship program.  An official announcement with details will be coming from BASS in September.
  • Anglers Conservation Team (ACT) This is a network of leisure anglers who volunteer to work with BASS conservation and the BASS Federation Nation to protect and enhance fisheries and aquatic habitats.  The overall goal is to supplement the capability of the BASS Federation Nation programs.  For more details contact the conservation director Robert Blankenship or go to Bassmaster.com.
  • Awards opportunity – community service programs must be in place by November 1, 2006.
  • Becky Gore’s club OCHS won the previous award.  They documented each event and meeting month by month with pictures and documentation in a scrapbook format.  The scrapbook was worked on at each meeting for that month.  Also, you need a brochure to promote the youth and conservation.
  • The state can also qualify adult clubs by using the same format.  Sid Ryan discussed how the state youth won the Lowrance award in the past and other awards.  Abby Ryan keeps a scrapbook of the state and breaks it into different areas of the state.

Miscellaneous:

  • The board members donated their mileage for this meeting.  We should start paying mileage at the next board meeting in November.
  • Nomination of officers:  Mike Bryant made motion to keep officers the same for another year and Abe Street second.  Unanimous approval of board members.

Region Reports:

  • Paul Thomson, youth director, thanked board for the position.  Paul wants to keep communication with all club members and the board of directors.  He is waiving all motel and mileage reimbursement related to the youth until December 2007.  Anyone interested in starting a youth club contact Paul and he will help with set-up.  We need to start recruiting in elementary and middle school.  Paul volunteered the youth to help with any state events, like set-up and take down stage, etc.  Send all rosters, dues, entry forms and fees to Pam Bryant, state secretary/treasurer.  The next youth tournament will be held at Aquia Creek on September 16, 2006, and the deadline for entry is August 20, 2006.

  • Region 1 and 9:  John Britton- has met with region 1 and 9.  Region 1 is not showing up for meetings, but region 9 is present.  Their first tournament will be September 17, 2006, at Leesylvania.  He is going to schedule an open tournament in October and November.  Region meeting will be the 1st Wednesday in October.

  • Region 2: Steve Woodroof- Steve purchased 30 weigh-in bags for the state federation nation.   The bags were from Duncanbags.com.  They also sell rod bags that hold 10 rods. Steve still wants to get some mesh bags to use at the weigh-in.  Becky Gore and Sid Ryan will check to see if they can get the mesh bags.   Habervision contacted Steve about orders for sunglasses.  BASS is coming back to Smith Mountain Lake in October and November.  They may need 18 Triton boats for camera people and they will pay the boat captains for each day. Call Steve to volunteer.

  • Region 3:  Bo Copely is the new director.   He will call an emergency meeting as soon as possible for the three clubs.  Pam Bryant will get contact information for Bo.

  • Region 4: Dwayne Linkous- not present.  Abe Street attended the meeting for Dwayne.  He is working on recruiting a new club from Floyd County.    He has a couple of new ideas to present to us at the next meeting.

  • Region 5: Mike Bryant- Region 5 had four clubs donate $20 each toward the weigh-in bags.  Mike is working on the scales and stage to get ready for the Fall Classic.  We are putting Plexiglas around the scales to eliminate the wind.  He is working on starting a youth club in 2007.  Coke has agreed to donate water for our state team in September.  Mike gave Paul Thomson the youth scales and tub to be used for future tournaments.

  • Region 6: John Terry – John will have a new club join BASS due to a split of members.  Also, region 6 has weigh-in bags they are donating to the youth.  John Britton, of region 9 will also give the youth bags.

  • Region 7: Ivan Morris not present; Jim Geiser filled in- Region 7 last region tournament will be September 9, 2006, on the Potomac.  They will also fish the Don Sprinkle Memorial Open and a youth event at London Point on September 17, 2006.

  • Region 10:  Ed Clayton was nominated director by his region.  They have a new club Powell Valley Bass Club.  Ed asked about refunding entry fees in state tournaments if member could not fish.  Any club can substitute the member as long as they are member of the B.A.S.S.

  • Sid Ryan, Vice-president:  Hook Set deadline was August 1, 2006.  He has only received articles from two people.  Please send articles ASAP.  Try to send new things for articles (looking into the future) and not old news.  Bo Copely, now with Kinko’s will get us discount price for magazine.

  • Region 2 Steve Woodroof and Region 5 Mike Bryant gave a suggestion from their regions to have a boater and non-boater category for our team championship tournament.  The top four boaters and top four non-boaters could go on to state.  Possibly pay 15 places to boater and 15 places to non-boater.  This would eliminate the complaining of non-boaters who did not get to fish the area they wanted or the front of the boat.  These are just suggestions that came from the clubs in the regions and can be discussed at the November meeting when making changes to the by-laws.

John Britton made a motion to adjourn and Steve Woodroof seconded at 1:30PM.

A state team meeting  was held  immediately following. the meeting.

The next board meeting will be held in Clarksville at the Lamplighter Restaurant on November 19, 2006.
