Joan Blankenship, president, called
the meeting to order at 9:00AM. She
opened by discussing the Federation Nation Championship on Lake Neely Henry in Gadston, AL,
in January. Ivan Morris talked about the
organization of the championship and how great it was having all the BASS
champions at the tournament and the Casting Kids Champions. Ryan Bush from VA won the Casting Kids event
for his age group and he will go on to the Bassmaster Classic to compete for
the two overall champions.
Minutes from the last meeting
were accepted as read; motion by Bo Copley and second by Steve Woodroof.
Treasurers report was accepted
as read; motion by Mike Bryant and second by John Terry..
Old Business:
Magazine:
- Hook Set second issue draft ready and going to
print this week. Sid had to
postpone the deadline due to not receiving articles from each region.
- Each region is expected to write a report and help
sell ads. The deadline for
submitting articles for our third issue will be April 30, 2007, and cannot
be extended. Each region is to send info on 3-4 advertisers or ads for the
magazine. Also, region directors to
take Hook Set to their region meeting and hand out to save on postage. If you dont receive your copy, see your
region director.

- OCHS Sports Show March 3-4, 2007 in Orange, VA
Admission is $5 & a two-day ticket can be purchased
- March board meeting on the 3rd after the
OCHS Boat & Sports Show at a restaurant.
- March 10 Icebreaker Benefit Tournament on Lake Anna. Entry is $100 per boat and includes big
fish. . Registration will start at 7:00 a.m. For
details contact your region director.
- BCWC VA eligible to send six clubs April 18-21,
2007, on Percy Priest in TN Top teams from Chapter team
championships have first opportunity to register. Registration forms can be obtained from
www.bassmaster.com
- Mr. BASS 2007 April 21 22, 2007 (Hosted by Region
10) Claytor Lake Entry Forms handed out and
can be downloaded from website
- May 19-20, 2007 Chapter Team I Buggs Island
at North Bend ramp Clarksville
will be the headquarters Entry form on website
- June 1-3, 2007 Free fishing events for all youth
and casting kids
- June 23-24, 2007 Chapter Team II Buggs Island at Occoneechee Ramp. Clarksville
will be the headquarters Entry form on website
- Sept. 23-28, 2007 Eastern Mid-Atlantic Date

- November, 2007 BASS Federation Championship will
be held before the end of the year.
Sponsors and Alliance Packages:
- BASS Drive the Nation A program to increase
membership in all of the states.
The event runs from 1/15/07 4/15/07.
- Skeeter contract same as last year, but mail
registered mail.
- Triton Alliance Package with Mercury, Lowrance and
Motorguide Joan gave details and was approved by the board. Watch web site for details
- Lowrance contract same as last year but orders should
be placed no later than October 1, 2007 to ensure availability of the
product. All 2006 state team
members must complete order form by 2/20/07
Youth:
- Paul Thomson, Director,
- Mike and Pam Bryant donated monogrammed Rod Bags to
Jesse Lineberry and Stephen Carr for them to use at the JWC and in the
future
- All youth to provide birth certificates to confirm
age limits Should be certified by 3/1/07
- Youth to host the Mid-Atlantic Invitational on July
14-15 on Potomac approx. 5 states
participate and it is by invitation.
Conservation 2007
- Robert Blankenship attended conference in Alabama during the
Federation Championship.
- Boater safety bill going to House of Delegates for
vote. We are encouraging all
members to get the free boater safety training which is eight hours. Most boaters insurance will give a
discount to members who take the boater safety.
- Robert working with the Tennessee Federation Nation
to get license reciprocity between states with border lakes.
- Grants available for conservation let Robert know
if need arises in your area
- Robert is working on other issues with VA Tech to
help DGIF
- We are talking about setting up an award of $500 for
the club that submits the best conservation for the year. Funding is available for this.
Legal Issues:
- By-laws discussed on the question of region dues
charged? Let the regions raise
money however the clubs in that region want.
- Motion to hold meeting in Region 9 for new region
director and grow the region with new clubs; Jeff Franklin made motion and
Region 6 seconded with all approved.
- Smith
Mountain Lake
land acquisition is presently being negotiated.
2007 Budget Motion to
approve region 10 and region 2 seconded with all approved.
New Business:
BASS Federation Nation:
- All rosters and dues must be paid by 12/31/06 to
B.A.S.S. online and to the state by 12/31/06. You may add new members or start
a new club up until 4-15-2007 as part of the Drive the Nation
Promotion.
Region Reports:
- Region 1 and 9:
John Britton- not in attendance.
- Region 2: Steve Woodroof- Asked how many federation
members have signed up for the Elite open tournament in June at Smith Mountain Lake. He is trying to get enough camera boats. Steve and Eddie Johnson have mailed
letters to different sponsors for this year.
- Region 3: Bo
Copely held meeting January 14 and they now have 5 clubs instead of 3. Trying to get sponsors for products and
they currently have three.
- Region 4: Dwayne Linkous- Absent represented by
Robert Blankenship They have picked up two major sponsors to help with
tournaments. They have most of the
region signed up to take the boater safety training. Sold three ads for the Hook Set.
- Region 5: Mike Bryant- Region 5 has 10 clubs now with
another signing up next week.
Starting a new youth club in March with the first tournament in
June. They already have seven
parents to participate and are working on sponsors. Sold three ads for the Hook Set. Again, ads on the trailer to expire
1/31/07.
- Region 6: John Terry Working on sponsorship. Received a lot of compliments on our
first issue of Hook Set. He is
working on the Fall Classic and trying to get discounts from the motels,
ramp parking and any others. Andy
Gall, their youth director is partnering with Occoneechee on June 2, 2007,
to hold casting kids event.
- Region 7: Ivan Morris said still BASS and TBF. They have plenty of sponsors even clubs
wanting their name on their trailer.
Ivan has formed a new club.
Ed Bond, region 7 youth director was introduced.
- Region 10: Ed
Clayton has two new clubs. Ed
Clayton has invited all members to fish Douglas and Cherokee Lakes
with them and just pay the entry fee.
- Paul Thomson Youth:
Welcome to Ed Bond, region 7 youth director. We have two youth going to the JWC in Alabama in
February. The youth board is
scheduling youth tournaments in different regions this year for better
participation and less driving time.
Several regions have contacted him about forming new youth clubs
and are in the works. The youth
plan on helping with the state adult tournaments again this year. They helped with the Fall Classic last
year and it went very well.
- Jeff Franklin Tournament Director announced that he
took a couple of the youth out on his boat during the Fall Classic for
just a few hours and they really enjoyed it. This may be something that our workers
can do during the tournament hours.
